Data mining is seen today as the great promise (or the great disappointment, depending on your point of view) of business intelligence. Even though the term “data mining” has been overused, applied to everything from OLAP tools to complex reports, the idea of automatically extracting knowledge from a database filled with raw information remains a dream today.
Data mining solutions in the market today have two distinct problems. “Bundled” tools that are sold by the data warehousing providers and a few others, are usually terribly inefficient, resulting in huge hardware costs or the abandonment of projects because of computational demands. Third party tools, on the other hand, usually demand that companies provide access to sensitive information, so that they can later receive “black-box” models built on top of that information.
Because of these problems, many organizations end up developing their own internal programs of study, and turn their business analysts into programmers.
Taking into account these limitations, Stone Age Tech created the eXtreme Miner, a data mining tool that takes advantage of the performance superiority of eXtreme Databases. eXtreme Miner was the first tool to allow complex data mining techniques (such as the construction of neural networks) to be developed inside companies themselves, without the need for special, dedicated hardware and without the need for programmers.
Offering several different data mining techniques (Association Rule Mining, Classification Rule Mining, Genetic Algorithm Optimization, Neural Network Construction, Clustering Analysis, amongst others) to end users in an intuitive interface, eXtreme Miner allows any business analyst, even those without profound statistical knowledge, to perform complex studies. This way, anyone can extract valuable knowledge from a database with simplicity and efficiency.
